Another report of a cyber attack surfaces online from the United States.
The recent victim is the truck and military vehicle giant Navistar whom
have disclosed a data breach occurrence.

Navistar Suffered Data Breach

A major cyberattack has reportedly hit the US-based truck and military
vehicle maker Navistar, leading to a data breach. The incident surfaced
online as Navistar admitted the matter in an 8-K filing with the Securities
and Exchange Commission (SEC).

As revealed from the form, the company noticed the cyber attack on May 20,
2021, affecting its IT systems. Upon detecting the incident, Navistar took
the relevant steps to contain the attack. It also started investigations of
the matter whilst involving technology security and forensic experts.

"Upon learning of the cybersecurity threat, the Company launched an
investigation and undertook immediate action in accordance with its
cybersecurity response plan, including employing containment protocols to
mitigate the impact of the potential threat, engaging internal and third
party information technology security and forensics experts to assess any
impact on the Company’s IT System, and utilizing additional security
measures to help safeguard the integrity of its IT System’s infrastructure
and data contained therein. "

A few days later, on May 30, 2021, the investigations revealed that the
attackers pilfered data from the firm’s network.

Despite this IT breach, Navistar remained operational during the incident.
The firm also confirmed to have reported the matter to the law enforcement
authorities.

Currently, details about the attack remain unclear. However, given the
back-to-back ransomware attacks on noteworthy US services, the
probabilities of a ransomware attack are also there. Or, it might be an
incident of a data breach, yet, the potential consequences are to be
ascertained.

Recently, a wave of ransomware attacks from different threat actors has
jolted up the United States. These include the fuel project Colonial
Pipeline, meat-producing giant JBS Foods, and the Massachusetts ferry
service The Steamship Authority. For the former two incidents, US officials
have held Russian threat actors responsible.
